Summary: This article explains how to successfully setup Joomla 1.5 on 1&1 Hosting Provider.

Symptoms: When you try to unzip Joomla 1.5.10 Full Package onto the root ("/") of your domain; you are given the error "An error occurred while the file logs/index.html was being copied" - This prevents you from completing the installation at the "Database Configuration" screen by not allowing you to hit "Next" due to a script error.

Resolution: Download Joomla 1.5.10 from joomla.org; open the .zip contents using WinRAR or WinZIP; delete the "logs" directory included in the Joomla install. Upload the modified .zip to your root ("/") directory on your 1&1 Webspace. Unzip it, and continue the install as normal. The problem rests on 1&1 having a chmod'd 744 "logs" folder already on the domain root directory. Since you cannot edit the "log" folder permissions, Joomla aborts the installation, because it cannot overwrite the "logs" folder with its own version. Below are some helpful screenshots.

**NOTE** Other browsers exhibit different behaviours. Per instance, Mozilla Firefox does not indicate any sort of error, it just prevents you from getting past the "database configuration" screen. The browers tested were: Mozilla Firefox, IE7, Google Chrome.
